The most common cause of pain in adnexae (fallopian tubes and ovaries) is infection. Accute salpingooophoritis presents as low abdominal pain, fever and chills; begins a few days after a mentrual period. It is usually due to chamydial or gonoccoccal disease with or without a superimposed pyogenic infection. Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease results from either as ingle episode or multiple episodes of infection and may present as infertility associated wit chronic pelvic pain that increases intensity with menses and intercourse.
