When applying mascara, make sure you don't have an excess on your mascara wand. For the upper lashes, the wand should be held in horizontal position parallel to the eye lid. The wand should be rolled slowly upwards from the roots to the tips. You must wiggle the brush a little at the roots to ensure that bristle moves in between the lashes and highlight each lash separately. Repeated strokes lend a fuller look. Finally use a eye lash comb to separate each lash and remove any clumps if formed.

Short lashes should be coated with mascaras containing plastic polymers which cling just to the tips of the lashes to create the illusion of extra length, applying mascara is fairly easy. Just tilt your head back a bit, place the wand at the base of your upper lashes, and use a toothbrush motion to move the wand towards the tips. The more time you spend building up the bases of your lashes, the thicker and fuller it look.
